Police Investigate Killing of Kogi Teacher After Assault for Punishing Pupil

The Kogi State Police Command has begun an investigation into the death of a primary school teacher who was allegedly attacked after disciplining a pupil in Olamaboro Local Government Area.

‎The police confirmed that the incident, which is being treated as a case of culpable homicide, was officially reported at the Olamaboro Divisional Headquarters on June 25, 2026.

‎This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat.

‎According to preliminary findings, on June 18, 2026, one Abdullahi Ishaka, alongside two women, reportedly stormed Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, where they assaulted a teacher, Maryam Usman, aged 30, for disciplining a pupil.

‎The statement further noted that the victim sustained serious injuries during the attack. She was first treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital in Okpo for further care, where she later died on June 25, 2026.

‎Following the report, police operatives visited both the school and the residence of the deceased for documentation and evidence gathering.

‎Arrangements are also ongoing to transfer the body to the General Hospital in Ankpa for autopsy and further medical examination.

‎The police spokesperson added that the suspects fled the scene before officers arrived, but efforts are currently underway to track and arrest them.

‎She confirmed that once arrested, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a full and discreet investigation.
