The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has imposed a ₦6 million fine on Saudi Airlines for breaching consumer protection regulations.
The sanction follows a previous incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where the NCAA stepped in to help the airline manage a situation that could have escalated into violence involving passengers.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu explained that the airline had earlier been granted time to address unresolved complaints and comply with regulatory decisions. However, after the grace period expired without satisfactory resolution, the authority proceeded with the penalty in line with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.
Achimugu noted that the enforcement action is intended to strengthen compliance with consumer protection standards while encouraging the airline to improve the quality of its services in Nigeria.
He stressed that passengers travelling to and from Nigeria deserve to be treated fairly and with respect, adding that protecting the rights of air travellers remains a key priority for the aviation regulator.
According to him, the NCAA remains committed to supporting Saudi Airlines and other carriers in achieving efficient and safe operations, provided they comply with the country’s aviation regulations.
