The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the promotion of 93 senior police officers, including Abia State Commissioner of Police, Isa Danladi Nda, who has been elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Njoku Kalu, on Wednesday.
The promotions were approved during the Commission’s plenary meeting held on July 1, 2026, following the officers’ successful performance in the written examination and oral interview conducted at the PSC Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
Nda is one of 13 Commissioners of Police promoted to AIG. Others elevated include Itam Nnaghe Obono of the Counter Terrorism Unit, Bassey Samuel Ewah of Plateau State, Osagie John Agans-Irabor of the FCID Lagos, Monday Agbonika of Edo State, Iyamah Daniel Adebor of Bayelsa State, Akaninyene Ezima of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu of Anambra State, Afegbua B. Rashid of Cross River State, Edozie Hycenth Azuka of the FCID’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism unit, Haruna Alaba Yahaya of Jigawa State, Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent of Benue State, and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin in charge of Welfare.
The Commission also promoted 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of Commissioner of Police. The newly promoted officers include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo and Zainab A. Pembi.
The PSC also approved the promotion of 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners of Police and 33 Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners of Police. It further confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to ASP I.
PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the promoted officers and urged them to remain truthful, transparent and accountable in the discharge of their duties.
He also advised them to maintain professionalism, avoid involvement in civil disputes, particularly land-related matters, and protect their integrity, reminding them that there is life after retirement.This version follows the inverted pyramid style more closely, with the source and key development in the lead.
