Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has inaugurated a new Governing Council for Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology (AFUSTA), marking a fresh chapter for the institution after a sweeping shake-up of its leadership.

‎The inauguration ceremony took place on Friday in Birnin Kebbi, weeks after the state government removed the university’s vice chancellor, two deputy vice chancellors, several management officials, and dissolved the former Governing Council following a crisis at the institution.

‎Addressing the newly appointed members, Governor Idris said the restructuring was aimed at restoring stability and placing the university on the path of lasting growth and academic excellence.

‎He explained that members of the new Council, led by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Muhammad Abubakar Kaoje, were selected based on their competence, integrity, and wealth of experience.

‎The governor described AFUSTA as Kebbi State’s first state-owned university and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting its development.

‎According to him, the experience of Professor Kaoje, who previously served as the university’s pioneer vice chancellor, would play a crucial role in rebuilding and repositioning the institution.

‎Governor Idris also assured the Council of continued government support and urged members to work closely with the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mungadi, and the university management to strengthen governance, improve academic standards, and enhance staff welfare.

‎He further charged the Council to carry out its responsibilities diligently and ensure the institution grows into one of Nigeria’s leading universities.

‎Speaking on behalf of the Council, Professor Kaoje thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in the members and promised they would work collectively to justify the trust placed in them.

‎He expressed confidence in the calibre of the Council members and pledged to collaborate with the state government in advancing the university’s growth and development.

‎Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, formally presented the Council members to the governor, noting that they were drawn from different professional backgrounds to ensure broad representation in the university’s administration.
