President Bola Tinubu has directed relevant government agencies to provide medical attention and relief assistance to the pupils and teachers rescued after spending 56 days in captivity in Oriire community, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The President expressed satisfaction over the successful rescue operation, praising the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force for their roles in securing the victims’ freedom.
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the operation led to the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers, while others involved in the crime were neutralised.
He described the development as a major relief for the affected families and the country, while commending security personnel for their commitment and efforts in ensuring the safe return of the victims.
The President also sympathised with the children, teachers, and their relatives over the psychological trauma they suffered during their prolonged captivity.
Tinubu acknowledged the cooperation of the Oyo State Government throughout the rescue mission and urged authorities in the state to improve security measures around schools to prevent future attacks.
He further instructed emergency agencies to collaborate with the state government in offering the rescued victims the necessary healthcare and recovery support.
“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Orire, Ogbomoso in Oyo State today after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation that neutralised some of the terrorists that perpetrated the evil act and the arrest of eight of them,” Tinubu said.
The President added that his administration would ensure justice for the victims and the family of Mr Oyedokun, one of the teachers who was killed by the abductors.
Tinubu also praised the Oyo State Government for its partnership with the Federal Government, describing the successful rescue as a result of coordinated efforts among security agencies and authorities.
