The Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University, formerly the University of Abuja, has approved the appointment of Alkasim Umar as the institution’s substantive registrar and Dr Rose Mommoh as substantive university librarian.
The appointments were confirmed during the council’s meeting chaired by Sen. Olanrewaju Tejuoso and took effect from July 9.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob.
According to the statement, both officials will serve a single five-year tenure in line with the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act and the university’s governing regulations.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, congratulated the new appointees, expressing confidence that their experience and professional competence would enhance the institution’s administration and library services.
He said their appointments would reinforce the university’s commitment to excellence in teaching, learning, research, innovation and community service.
Fawehinmi noted that the appointments came at a crucial period as the institution continues its transformation into a globally competitive university.
He added that he looked forward to working closely with both officials to advance the university’s strategic vision and drive further institutional growth.
Umar holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maiduguri. He also possesses professional certifications from the Digital Bridge Institute and Souters, United Kingdom.
