Senegal’s President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, succeeding Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio.
Faye emerged as the new regional bloc chairman during a high-level summit of West African leaders, in in Sierra Leone, on Sunday.
Also at the meeting, Biram Diop was appointed President of the ECOWAS Commission, taking over from Dr Omar Touray.
The summit is expected to focus on deepening regional integration, strengthening cooperation among member states, and promoting peace, security, and economic development across West Africa.
