Western embassies in Nigeria have reportedly shortlisted key officers of the Osun State Police Command for visa bans and economic sanctions following documented reports of political killings and violence in the state.
Fresh reports indicate the diplomatic action is linked to what the missions described as “perceived unfair policing” by the Osun command.
Already, reports confirmed that “a reign of visa ban looms over the entire police force” because of the development.
According to sources, some western embassies have listed support for political violence by certain police officers as “a red flag in the visa processing system.”
Insiders within the diplomatic corps hinted that top police officials listed include Ibrahim Gotham, the Commissioner of Police, DCP Bayonle Sulaiman, DCP SCID, and DCP Olomo Benedict, DCP Operations.
“More names are been shortlisted for action. We received so many petitions on police conduct at our embassy. Ditto for many other western embassies,” a source at a top western embassy noted.
It would be recalled that several western ambassadors have visited Osun state in the wake of the recent upsurge in political violence in the state.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command had not issued an official response to the development.
