The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will begin displaying the personal particulars of candidates contesting the 2027 Presidential, Senate and House of Representatives elections in Lagos State on Saturday.
The commission disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Esther Emeh.
According to INEC, the exercise is being carried out in compliance with Section 29 of the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires the publication of candidates’ submitted information for public scrutiny.
The commission explained that Form EC9, which contains candidates’ personal details, educational qualifications and supporting affidavits, will be displayed at the INEC Lagos State Headquarters in Sabo-Yaba. Copies will also be made available at the commission’s Local Government offices within the affected constituencies.
INEC said the display is intended to give registered political parties, candidates, stakeholders and members of the public the opportunity to examine the documents submitted by those seeking elective offices.
It urged Nigerians to carefully inspect the forms and report any suspected false declarations or forged documents through the legal procedures provided under the Electoral Act.
The commission noted that anyone who believes a candidate submitted inaccurate information or fake documents has the right to seek legal redress in accordance with the law.
Reaffirming its commitment to credible elections, INEC said it remains dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability and the conduct of free and fair electoral processes.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise forms part of the preparations for the 2027 general elections.
