Nigeria recorded two more silver medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday, with the men’s 4x100m relay team and long jumper Ruth Usoro delivering podium finishes.
The relay quartet of Favour Ashe, Kayinsola Ajayi, Nicholas Fakorede and Udodi Onwuzurike claimed silver after posting a season-best time of 38.12 seconds. Australia won the race in 38.07 seconds, while Ghana settled for bronze in 38.13 seconds. Canada and South Africa were disqualified.
In the women’s long jump, Ruth Usoro also secured silver with a season-best leap of 6.87 metres, achieved on her opening attempt. The performance marked an improvement on her sixth-place finish at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
England’s Jazmin Sawyers claimed the gold medal with a jump of 6.93 metres, while Barbados’ Tia-Adana Belle earned bronze with 6.83 metres.
Team Nigeria wrapped up the ninth day of competition with one gold, two silver and one bronze medal. Samuel Ogazi made history by winning Nigeria’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold in the men’s 400m, while Ella Onojuvwevo added a bronze in the women’s 400m.
