Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and security of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state.
Fubara made the commitment on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch B Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area.
The governor, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Promise Oguzie, described corps members as important contributors to the development of the state and the country.
He encouraged the new corps members to conduct themselves responsibly during their service year, urging them to become positive examples and contribute to nation-building.
According to him, the state government would continue to provide an environment that would enable corps members to participate effectively in programmes and activities that support national development.
Also speaking, the Rivers NYSC Coordinator, Moses Oleghe, called on the corps members to regard their deployment to Rivers as an opportunity to serve the country and make a meaningful impact.
Oleghe advised them to uphold discipline, integrity and the fear of God in the discharge of their duties. He particularly reminded them of the responsibility they would carry if selected as ad hoc personnel for the 2027 general elections under the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The NYSC coordinator also appealed to Governor Fubara to provide funding for the construction of separate hostels with a combined capacity of 2,000 beds for male and female corps members at the orientation camp.
A total of 3,584 corps members were formally sworn in at the ceremony, comprising 2,163 females and 1,421 males.
The oath of allegiance was administered by Justice Godspower Aguma on behalf of the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Chibuzor Amadi.
