The Kebbi State police command has arrested six suspects for alleged cable vandalism and breaking into the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Jega.
A statement on Monday by Bashir Usman, the command’s spokesman, said the suspects were arrested on Friday and that all six stolen generators were recovered.
“On 28th August 2026 at about 0730hrs, Police operatives arrested Aliyu Muhammed (male, aged 24, of Dudduke Village, Jega LGA) in possession of bundles of aluminium cable wires concealed in a sack,” he said.
He stated that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to having conspired with Yusuf Dudduke (of the same address) to vandalise and steal cables from an electric pole at Dudduke Village.
Mr Dudduke was subsequently arrested.
Mr Usman said that, in a related development, following a report of breaking and entry into the INEC office in Jega, where six generators were stolen, detectives were immediately deployed.
“The operation led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of all six stolen generators. One of the generators had, however, already been dismantled into scrap parts for sale,” he noted.
He added that the suspects were in custody and would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, warned that vandalism of critical infrastructure, breaking and entry, and theft of government property would attract severe penalties.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities via 09039911876 or 07081074395.
