Ekiti Man Arraigned Over Alleged Theft of Sports Kits Worth N80,000‎

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 23-year-old man, Bello Abubakar, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing sports kits valued at N80,000.

‎The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and breach of the peace.

‎The prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 5 at about 10.30 a.m. at the Stadium Complex area, Ado-Ekiti.

‎He alleged that the defendant stole a school bag, canvas shoes, a boxing belt and sports playing pants valued at N80,000, belonging to the complainant, Adedeji Abdulsamad.

‎Mr Apata also alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

‎He said the offences contravened Sections 302 and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

‎The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

‎The defendant, who had no legal representation, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

‎In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10,000, with one surety in like sum.

‎She adjourned the case until September 18 for hearing.
