The Lagos State Government has arrested 215 suspected street beggars during a fresh enforcement operation carried out across different parts of the state.
The arrests were made by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) as part of a wider operation targeting street begging and the activities of suspected street urchins.
Lagos Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, said in a statement on Saturday that those arrested comprised 152 males, 46 females and 17 young adults.
According to Wahab, the exercise is aimed at maintaining public order, improving environmental sanitation and creating safer and more orderly public spaces across Lagos.
