The Tel Aviv District Planning and Building Committee has approved plans for a permanent United Arab Emirates (UAE) embassy in Herzliya Pituah, central Israel, six years after the two countries established diplomatic relations.
The approval, granted on Tuesday, allows for the construction of a building of up to 15 storeys to accommodate the embassy’s offices and residences for the ambassador and diplomatic staff.
The decision paves the way for the development of a permanent headquarters for the UAE diplomatic mission amid regional tensions affecting relations between the two countries.
In October 2025, Herzliya Mayor Yariv Fisher confirmed to The Jerusalem Post that the city had been selected as the location for the embassy.
Fisher welcomed the decision, saying the city intended to strengthen its ties with countries that signed the Abraham Accords, as well as other nations that might join the agreements in the future.
He said the planned cooperation would cover areas such as education, transportation, technology, tourism and environmental quality, with initiatives aimed at promoting coexistence and peace in the Middle East.
The Israel Land Authority previously disclosed that the process of securing a permanent location involved negotiations with various parties following a request from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Israel and the UAE established diplomatic relations in 2020 under the Abraham Accords, a US-brokered agreement that normalised relations between Israel and several Arab countries.
