The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps says it has deployed 1,000 officers to beef up security ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
NSCDC commandant in Ondo, Oluyemi Ibiloye, said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Akure by the command’s spokesperson, SC Daniel Aidamenbor.
Mr Ibiloye said the deployment was in conjunction with other operational assets to prepare for the end of the Ramadan fast and the Easter celebration.
“Areas of responsibility include Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, worship centres, as well as other state and local government critical national assets and infrastructure.
“Tactical and specialised units include the Agro Rangers Team, Armed Squad, Female Strike Force, Rapid Tactical Squad, Anti-Vandalism Squad, and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives Unit.
“Other teams are counter-terrorism and disaster management units, and will be deployed to public spaces and strategic public places prone to criminal activities. Area commanders and divisional officers are to intensify surveillance and visibility patrols across flashpoints in their AoR by synergising with sister agencies in information gathering and sharing,” he said.
