The African Democratic Congress has welcomed a Supreme Court ruling affirming Senator David Mark as its National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, while reiterating demands for the resignation of the electoral commission chairman.

The party described the apex court’s unanimous decision as “a clear validation” of its leadership position and confirmation that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to de-recognise the David Mark-led leadership was “fundamentally faulty.”

In a statement issued by National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC commended the five-man panel, saying the judgment “has done great credit to the institution of judiciary in our country.”

The party urged members and democratic stakeholders to remain vigilant, warning that “what has been attempted once can be attempted again.”

ADC reaffirmed its position that INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan must resign, stating that the circumstances now clarified by the Supreme Court point to “either a grave failure of judgment or a deliberate act of bad faith.”

“Nigeria’s democracy cannot afford an electoral umpire whose actions raise legitimate questions about impartiality,” the statement read.

The party demanded that INEC restore recognition of the David Mark-led leadership on its website and in all formal communications.

Calling the ruling “not the end of the struggle,” the ADC vowed to remain “resolute in our mission to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative, anchored on ending insecurity, reducing the cost of living, and creating jobs at scale.”
