The chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, in Kano State, Sa’adatu Maijama’a, narrowly escaped an attack by suspected political thugs during the political rally of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rano town.

Ms Maijama’a, who is also the chairperson of Tudun Wada Local Government Area, was rescued by operatives of the State Security Service, SSS, moments after the attackers advanced towards her, hurling objects and attempting to attack her.

The incident occurred as she approached a Coaster bus that conveyed top government officials, including Governor Abba Yusuf, to the event.

Eyewitnesses said the machete-wielding thugs confronted her while she was about to board the bus, prompting SSS operatives attached to the governor’s convoy to quickly shield her and bundle her into one of their SUVs before speeding off.

“Even as the SSS operatives saved her, they started attacking the vehicle. But for the quick intervention of the SSS operatives, she could have been killed,” said a witness.

Governor Yusuf has reportedly convened an emergency security council meeting over the incident as well as rising insecurity in the state.
