The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a father and his son, during separate operations that led to the recovery of illegal firearms across the state.
Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta, saying the arrests followed intelligence-driven investigations by officers of the command.
According to him, operatives of the Afon Division apprehended Fatai Adegbola and his 23-year-old son, Waliu Adegbola, over the alleged theft of a Tecno Android phone worth ₦180,000. The case was reported on May 22, 2026, around 7:30 p.m.
He explained that detectives tracked and retrieved the stolen device before carrying out a search at the suspects’ residence with a valid warrant. During the operation, officers reportedly uncovered a locally fabricated pistol and a dane gun hidden within the premises.
The suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine whether other individuals were involved.
In another operation, officers attached to the Ode Remo Division arrested 25-year-old Inioluwa Adesanya for allegedly stealing a dane gun from a resident in the area.
Police said the suspect gained access to the victim’s home while working as an assistant to a carpenter handling renovation work at the residence.
During interrogation, Adesanya reportedly admitted to the crime and confessed to being a member of the Aye confraternity. He also disclosed that the firearm had been altered to make it easier to conceal.
The recovered dane gun has been secured, while the suspect remains in custody pending transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta.Meanwhile, officers from the Ilisan Remo Division recovered another locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge during a patrol operation around Ilisan Remo Roundabout on May 27, 2026.Babaseyi said the weapon was found abandoned and immediately taken into police custody. He added that investigations are ongoing to identify the owner and trace the source of the firearm.
The police spokesperson noted that all the cases have been transferred to the SCID for further investigation and prosecution.Commending the operatives, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised their swift response and professionalism, reiterating the command’s resolve to intensify efforts against cultism, armed robbery, violent crimes, and unlawful possession of weapons in the state.
