A member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Sakwa Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Wanzam Zaki, has passed away after a brief illness.
The late lawmaker, who also served as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, died in the early hours of Sunday in Bauchi.
His death was announced by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Sulaiman, through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Garba Kobi.
Expressing grief over the loss, the Speaker described Zaki as a dedicated legislator and public servant who contributed significantly to the development of his constituency and Bauchi State.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of Hon. Mohammed Wanzam, member representing Sakwa Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly,” the statement read.
The funeral prayer for the deceased was held on Sunday at the Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque in Bauchi.
Sulaiman prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the late lawmaker, asking God to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
Meanwhile, Governor Bala Mohammed also expressed sadness over Zaki’s death, describing him as a humble leader, committed legislator and devoted public servant whose life reflected dedication to the welfare of his constituents.
In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor said the late lawmaker distinguished himself through diligence, patriotism and maturity, particularly in his role as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation.
Mohammed praised his contributions to legislative oversight and policy development, noting that his efforts helped advance programmes aimed at improving the lives of residents.
According to the governor, the state has lost a dependable lawmaker, a bridge-builder and a respected leader whose humility and commitment earned him admiration across political and social circles.
He urged the people of Bauchi State to take comfort in the legacy of service, selflessness and dedication left behind by the late legislator, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul in Aljannatul Firdaus.
