There’s no doubt that the self-aclaimed Human Rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has acquired notoriety for blackmail, mudslinging, outright falsehood and the likes. He has been using his news platform to publish series of fabricated falsehood against high profile government officials. Few cases in point is that of the former IGP Kayode Egbetoku. He has also singled out ACP Bukola Kuti from among the personal staff of the former IGP.
In his desperate bid to discredit and disqualify Kuti, Sowore has concocted all manners of narratives to drive home the narrative of unmerited appointment and favours. Despite the sterling Police career of this outstanding officer, Sowore has continued to spew senseless lies to achieve his sinister motives. For instance, Sowore claimed that Kuti joined the Nigeria Police 10 years ago, while in reality, ACP Bukola Kuti enrolled into the Nigeria Police as cadet ASP in 2010 (16 years ago). She has had a distinguished career before her appointment as PSO3 by the former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
This was not the first time Kuti will occupy sensitive position in the Nigeria Police. Between 2015 and 2023, she served as the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to the wife of the former Nigerian Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo. Her merit based promotion to the rank of ACP was not in isolation. She was promoted along side many others, including some of her course mates as against the lies of Sowore that she was unduly favoured by the former IGP Egbetokun.
It was against the backdrop of ceaseless falsehood, that ACP Kuti instituted a legal action against activist Omoyele Sowore and his online platform over allegations of defamatory publications.
Court documents from the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, show that the suit was filed before Honourable Justice J.O.E. Adeyemi-Ajayi. In an enrolled court order issued on February 18, 2026, the court granted an interim injunction restraining the defendants from publishing or circulating defamatory or derogatory statements against the claimant pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.
The order followed an ex-parte application moved by the claimant’s counsel, Chief Ayotunde Ogunleye (SAN), who urged the court to halt further publications relating to the subject matter of the suit while the case is being determined.
According to the court order, Sowore and Sahara Reporters, including their agents, privies, servants, and anyone acting through them, are restrained from making or publishing statements considered degrading or defamatory against ACP Kuti in connection with the issues raised in the suit.
Despite the order, however, Sowore is alleged to have continued making claims about the officer through the same media platform. Critics say the development raises questions, particularly as the activist has often spoken publicly about the need for adherence to the rule of law and respect for court orders in Nigeria.
ACP Bukky was the First Female PSO in the history of Nigeria police force and reportedly the only woman among the three Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) appointed during the tenure of former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun—a move some observers have praised as a step toward greater gender inclusion in senior police appointments by the former Police Boss.
Further details highlight Mrs. Bukky extensive service record, including eight years as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the wife of former Vice President Dolapo Osinbajo, and nearly 15 years of experience in the Nigeria Police Force.
Sources also note that several of her coursemates have attained senior ranks, with at least four currently serving as Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), while others remain Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs).
During Bukky’s tenure as PSO, it is claimed that petitions were handled within 24 hours without financial inducements, and challenged anyone who induced her financially before approval of their petition.
However, some commentators have questioned why focusing only her career progression by so called activist? asking whether similar scrutiny is applied to other officers. They point out that several senior officers—including those serving as Principal Staff Officers, Staff Officers, aids have also experienced promotions for merits and awards under the former IGP Kayode Egbetokun as yearly routines which legacies were carried out by the current IGP Tuji Disu by appointing another female PSO by Name MS. ENEZE MAKOJU AKABA as women inclusion in police hierarchy administrative positions and close to 40 Officers were promoted along with Bukola Kuti including the current Woman PSO ENEZE MAKOJU AKABA under the former IGP.
While weighing on the matter, Mr Isaiah Davies Ijele, Executive Director, Concerned Citizens Leadership Integrity and Transparency Advocacy Initiative (CLITA), urged Sowore to address the allegations of anti-women activism, stating that “public figures advocating for accountability should also be prepared to comply fully with judicial directives. The public wants to know of Sowore is anti-women in Power and why so much venom against the innocent woman doing her Job.
“Sowore’s recent activism has shown his hatred for women in authority, especially the police women rising to the
position of authority? Sowore has now shifted his sinister attention to DIG MARGARET OCHALLA, the only Woman in such position in the Nigeria Police and CSP PRINCESS NKERUIKA NWODE (RUKA RUKA). I am sure very soon, he will be on the current PSO to the New IGP Ms ENEZE MAKOJU AKABA. It’s time for Ministry of Women affairs, National Assembly Committee on women to rise up and stop this madness from Sowore and the likes.”
