The Lagos State Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Richard Benson, has urged opposition parties in the state to form a strong alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying unity is key to defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Benson made the call during an interview in Lagos on Sunday, stressing that opposition groups must work together to present a credible political alternative focused on good governance, accountability and ethical leadership.
He argued that a united opposition would help strengthen democracy and create room for improved youth empowerment, social justice, equal opportunities, public participation and transparent leadership in Lagos.
“I appeal to all opposition parties in Lagos State to unite and take over power from the APC. This will bring about accountable governance, youth development, inclusiveness, equity, social justice, wider public participation and integrity in leadership,” Benson said.
The DLA chairman said the party’s vision was centred on building a government that would be responsible to the people and committed to democratic values.
He alleged that the current administration in Lagos had allowed practices that benefited certain interests and groups, adding that a change in leadership would provide an opportunity for broader representation and fairness among residents.
“The opposition must come together as one force to ensure that political power changes hands in the 2027 general elections. Nigerians will benefit from greater inclusion and stronger democratic participation if there is a change in government,” he stated.
Benson said the DLA remained committed to promoting accountable leadership, sustainable development and strong democratic institutions.
According to him, the party, under the leadership of Barrister Samuel Memeh, aims to build a nation driven by integrity, youth empowerment, institutional strength and long-term progress.
He added that the party would continue advocating for a society where justice is upheld, opportunities are available to all citizens and public institutions remain effective.
“We must create a society where justice thrives, opportunities are accessible to everyone and institutions are strengthened,” Benson said.
