Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has urged citizens to become more actively involved in the country’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Prime Time on Arise Television on Tuesday, Falz argued that Nigerians have not shown enough anger over the country’s current situation, stressing that greater public participation is needed to bring about meaningful political change.
He maintained that politicians often try to convince voters that their ballots do not count, but insisted that elections remain the most effective means of holding leaders accountable.
According to him, first-time voters have a particularly important role to play, adding that the existence of vote buying and other attempts to manipulate elections proves that votes carry significant weight.
Falz encouraged eligible Nigerians to register, vote and remain committed to the electoral process, saying a united and overwhelming turnout would make it far more difficult for election outcomes to be manipulated.
He expressed optimism that more Nigerians would heed the call to participate in the democratic process, insisting that citizens must not only criticise those in power but also take responsibility by exercising their civic rights at the polls.
