NANS Seeks Justice for Murdered Ogun Polytechnic Student, Plans Peaceful Protest

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun Joint Campus Council, has called for justice following the killing of a student of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori-Ewekoro, during an alleged armed robbery incident in Eruku.

‎In a statement released on Tuesday, the council’s spokesperson, Adimado Ahmed, described the incident as a tragic loss that went beyond the death of a student, saying it represented the loss of a young life, a future, and the hopes of a family.

‎The student body stressed that every student represents the dreams and expectations of parents, relatives, friends and communities who support their educational journey.
‎
‎According to the group, students leave their homes daily with the aim of attending lectures, taking examinations, carrying out research, acquiring skills and preparing to make positive contributions to society, adding that no student should lose their life while pursuing education.

‎NANS Ogun JCC expressed worry over the rising security challenges affecting schools and student communities across Ogun State, urging authorities to take immediate and effective measures to address the situation.
‎
‎The council also appealed to students, student representatives, civil society groups, parents and other stakeholders to participate in a peaceful protest aimed at demanding improved security and protection for students in the state.

‎The group called on the Ogun State Police Command, the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Eleweran, the State Security Service (SSS), and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
‎
‎It demanded that those responsible for the killing be identified and prosecuted, while also urging security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering and security operations around campuses and student communities.

‎NANS reaffirmed its commitment to seeking justice for the deceased student and ensuring that safety concerns affecting students receive urgent attention.
