Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commissioned the newly built Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s ability to prevent, monitor and respond to infectious disease outbreaks.

The governor inaugurated the facility on Monday at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Kano, describing it as a major health intervention initiated and completed by his administration.

According to Yusuf, the centre will serve as a coordinating hub for managing communicable diseases, including tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, meningitis and other infectious conditions affecting residents of the state.

He called on health authorities to ensure the proper management and effective use of the facility to maximise its benefits for the people of Kano.

“I am commissioning this important health project, which was conceived and executed by the present administration. The Kano State Centre for Disease Control is designed to help tackle communicable diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, meningitis and others,” the governor said.

Yusuf also commended development partners and officials of the state Ministry of Health for their support and contributions towards establishing the centre.

Earlier, the Kano State Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran-Yusuf, said the governor had fulfilled his commitment to creating a dedicated disease control centre in the state.

The commissioner noted that the facility would play a vital role in improving disease surveillance and ensuring faster responses to health emergencies.

He acknowledged the contributions of organisations including the World Health Organisation (WHO), African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), FHI 360, Core Group, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Lafiya and eHealth Africa in making the project possible.
