The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Auwal Musa Mohammed as the new Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil, Kano State, while also announcing the redeployment of eight Commissioners of Police (CPs) to different state commands.
The Commission said the appointments form part of efforts to reinforce leadership within the Nigeria Police Force and address operational demands following the promotion of several senior officers.
The decisions were reached during a meeting of the PSC chaired by retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, who serves as Board Member and Honourable Commissioner I.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, the PSC described AIG Mohammed as a seasoned police officer with more than three decades of experience in operations, criminal investigations, intelligence-driven policing and police training.
Mohammed holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Bayero University, Kano. Throughout his career, he has served as Commandant of the Police College in Maiduguri, Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zones 3 and 6. He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
The Commission also approved the deployment of CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo to Abia, CP Ayodeji Faniyan to Plateau, CP Saka Adewale Ajao to Bayelsa, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue to Cross River, CP Nnanna Oji Ama to Anambra, CP Patrick Daaor to Edo, CP Tijani Murtala to Jigawa and CP Samuel Erale Etaifo to Delta State.
Before their latest assignments, the affected commissioners served in key positions across the Force Headquarters and other formations, including the Department of Training and Development, the Police Cooperative Society, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), INTERPOL and the Force Intelligence Department.
Justice Galumje urged the newly deployed officers to demonstrate professionalism, maintain political neutrality and carry out their responsibilities in line with the rule of law. He also stressed the need for diligence, fairness and integrity in order to strengthen public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
Also present at the meeting were PSC members Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, retired Justice Christine Ladi Dabup, and the Secretary to the Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
According to the Commission, the latest appointments and redeployments are intended to improve leadership across state police commands and enhance the operational efficiency of the Force.
