Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced an emphatic performance to defeat Egypt 6-2 on Wednesday in Rabat, securing a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The defending champions took the lead in the 21st minute after captain Asisat Oshoala calmly converted a penalty awarded following a VAR review for a handball inside Egypt’s penalty area.
Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s advantage soon after, finishing off a well-worked move created by Omorinsola Babajide to score her first goal of the tournament.
Egypt reduced the deficit just before the interval when Nadine Ghazi converted from the penalty spot, leaving the score at 2-1 at half-time.
Nigeria regained control after the restart as Uchenna Kanu restored the two-goal cushion. The Super Falcons were later awarded another penalty, which Christy Ucheibe converted in the 81st minute to extend the lead.
Ghazi grabbed her second goal of the encounter three minutes later for Egypt, but Rashidat Ajibade and Joy Omewa added late goals to seal a convincing 6-2 victory for Nigeria.
The result confirms the Super Falcons’ place in the last eight, where they will take on Cameroon on Sunday.
In the other match of the day, Zambia recorded a narrow 2-1 victory over Malawi.
