The Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Taraba State, Sen. Abubakar Umar Tutare, has called for immediate action on the killings in Binnari village of Amar Ward in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State.
In a statement issued by the Director, Media and Publicity of the Tutare Campaign Council, Saidu Sadiq Adamu, in Jalingo on Sunday, Sen. Tutare condemned the killings in totality, describing them as unacceptable.
The ADC governorship candidate called on governments at all levels and security agencies to take urgent steps to protect the lives and property of all citizens, especially those living in vulnerable communities, and to track down the perpetrators of the dastardly acts and bring them to book to serve as a deterrent to others.
Tutare observed that the frequent attacks on peaceful communities across the state, especially in Sardauna and Karim-Lamido Local Government Areas, were becoming worrisome.
“Every citizen has the constitutional right to life, welfare and property, and the prime duty of any government is to ensure the security and sanctity of these rights at all times,” the statement added.
He called on the government and security agencies to act beyond merely showing concern and instead take serious proactive measures to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the people.
“Relevant authorities should step up measures which may include, but are not limited to, the immediate deployment of security personnel and the provision of adequate resources to address the gaps that currently exist in such vulnerable communities,” the statement further noted.
Tutare sympathized with the victims, assuring them that the ADC stands in solidarity with them at this trying moment. He also prayed for the repose of the souls of their loved ones and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
