Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have repelled a bandits’ attack in Guma council area of Benue and recovered a cache of arms and other items.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ahmad Zubairu, the operation’s acting spokesman, said this on Monday.
“The operation followed credible and actionable intelligence indicating that some criminal elements posing as herders had crossed from Nasarawa state into Guma LGA.
“On arrival at the location, the troops came under gunfire from the armed group. The troops responded effectively, repelled the attack and forced the assailants to flee,” he said.
Mr Zubairu said no casualties were recorded among the troops.
According to him, a further search of the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, four empty AK-47 magazines, eight calves, three phones, and a National Identification Number (NIN) document belonging to Umar Yusuf.
The force commander of Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke and general officer commanding 5 Division, Nigerian Army, Moses Kolo Gara, commended the troops for their vigilance, swift response and successful recovery of the items.
