“CAN Taraba State strongly condemns this heinous, inhuman and senseless act of violence against innocent citizens.

“It calls on the Federal Government, the Taraba State Government and all security agencies to immediately launch a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the attack, and to ensure that the perpetrators are identified, apprehended and brought to justice without delay.

“We also call for enhanced security deployment to Karim Lamido LGA, which shares boundaries with Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Nasarawa States and has become vulnerable to recurring attacks.”

The statement appealed to the people of Binnari, Karim Lamido and Taraba State at large to remain calm and law-abiding and not to take the law into their hands.

“In this moment of grief, CAN Taraba State prays for quick healing and recovery for all those injured in the attack; repose and eternal rest for the souls of the faithful departed who lost their lives; and divine consolation, comfort and strength for the bereaved families and the entire living community who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods.”

According to reports confirmed by the Taraba State Police Command through its PRO, ASP Victor Mshelizah, suspected armed bandits invaded the community at about 3:00 p.m., shortly after Jumu’ah prayers, opening fire sporadically, looting food items and shops, and setting houses ablaze. While the police confirmed the recovery of 10 bodies, community leaders report that 37 bodies have so far been recovered from bushes and rivers, including women and children. Several others are injured and displaced.
