The Chairman of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee, Bamidele Salam, has secured the Accord Party ticket to contest the Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.

‎Salam emerged as the party’s candidate during a primary election held on Friday in Ede, Osun State. The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Accord Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Omorogbe, who led the delegation that oversaw the process.

‎The primary, which brought together delegates from the four local government areas within the constituency, ended in his affirmation as the party’s flagbearer.

‎Salam, who first entered the National Assembly in 2019 and was re-elected in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently joined the Accord Party alongside six other federal lawmakers in Osun State following political realignments within the PDP. The move also came in the wake of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s shift to the Accord Party amid internal party tensions.

‎Reacting to his emergence, Salam expressed appreciation to party members and constituents for their continued support, describing the nomination as both a privilege and a renewed responsibility.

‎He pledged to intensify efforts toward delivering more development projects to his constituency, noting that the confidence reposed in him would serve as motivation for greater commitment.

‎“I am deeply humbled by this support from my people. It is both an encouragement and a call to do more,” he said.

‎Salam also commended Governor Adeleke for his backing, describing him as a key source of encouragement throughout his political journey.

‎Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the lawmaker vowed not to disappoint his constituents, saying the new mandate would push him to expand ongoing development efforts across the federal constituency.

‎He explained that his legislative agenda, which began in 2019, had recorded progress but still required further consolidation to meet the needs of the people.

‎According to him, future priorities will include stronger legislative interventions to attract infrastructure and social amenities to the constituency.

‎Salam also emphasised the need for improved national security, calling for closer collaboration between the legislature and executive to develop a more effective security framework for the country.

‎He warned that insecurity remained a major national challenge, stressing that development efforts could only thrive in a safe environment.

‎“Our greatest challenge today is insecurity. We must work together to build systems that guarantee the safety of lives and property,” he said.

‎He added that lawmakers must take a more proactive role in strengthening national security architecture, while also supporting policies that promote peace and economic prosperity.
