Abang Decries Danare Border Incursion, Urges FG to Act

‎ The Member representing Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Victor Abang, has condemned the incursion by armed Cameroonian soldiers into Danare Community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, describing it as a violation of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

‎Reacting to the incident which occurred on Wednesday, June 10, the lawmaker expressed concern over the fear and uncertainty the development has created among his constituents residing in the border community.
‎
‎Abang said no nation should tolerate the unauthorized entry of foreign military personnel into its territory, noting that repeated incursions pose serious threats to national security and the safety of citizens.
‎
‎According to him, the incident also threatens the longstanding cordial relationship between Nigeria and Cameroon, as well as the livelihoods of residents who depend on peaceful cross border interactions.
‎
‎The federal lawmaker commended residents of Danare for exercising restraint despite the provocation, a move he said helped prevent the situation from escalating.
‎
‎He called on the Federal Government to urgently engage the Government of Cameroon through diplomatic channels to address the recurring boundary challenges affecting communities along the Nigeria Cameroon border.
‎
‎Abang stressed that the persistent nature of such incidents underscores the need for a comprehensive and lasting resolution of outstanding border issues to forestall future occurrences and preserve regional peace and stability.

‎He also urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Boundary Commission, and relevant security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the latest incursion and take proactive measures to safeguard Nigerian communities located along the international boundary.

‎The lawmaker reassured the people of Boki and the entire Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency of his commitment to their security and welfare, pledging to engage relevant authorities to ensure the matter receives urgent attention.
