Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday to move within three points of Premier League leaders Manchester City, while Manchester United’s disappointing start to the 2026/27 campaign continued with a 1-1 draw against Leeds United.
At Elland Road, United failed to hold on to their lead as Leeds fought back to earn a point, extending the visitors’ winless run in their opening seven league fixtures.
United have managed just one victory in seven matches, alongside four draws and two defeats, making it their worst-ever start to a league season. The result leaves Michael Carrick’s side 13th in the standings.
The visitors had an early opportunity to take the lead, but Bryan Mbeumo failed to convert a free header. The forward, however, made amends in the 35th minute, turning home a cross from Youri Tielemans to put United ahead.
Leeds responded six minutes into the second half when Dominic Calvert-Lewin capitalised on a bouncing ball inside the penalty area to restore parity in the 51st minute.
Both teams pushed for a winner, but neither could find a breakthrough as the match ended in a stalemate.
Speaking after the game, Carrick said his players had approached the fixture with renewed determination, adding that the team had shown purpose in training over the preceding days.
“It felt like a fresh start today, where we’re at, accepting it and doing something about it. There was a real purpose to the group the last couple of days and they took it out onto the pitch,” he said.
United will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Como on Wednesday, hoping to get their campaign back on track.
Meanwhile, Arsenal claimed all three points against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, thanks to a late goal that secured a 1-0 win.
The Gunners controlled much of the encounter but struggled to break down Forest’s defence until the 80th minute, when Noni Madueke’s effort inside the penalty area took a deflection off a home defender and found the net.
Forest came close to equalising shortly afterwards, but Chris Wood was denied after finding himself unmarked in the box. Arsenal held on to extend their points tally to 18, keeping the pressure on league leaders Manchester City.
Elsewhere, Bournemouth defeated Sunderland 2-0 after their opponents were reduced to 10 men, while Brighton produced the most emphatic result of the day with a 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace.
