The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM) chapter, has called off its 52-day strike following an agreement reached with the Benue State Government and the university’s management.
The lecturers embarked on the industrial action on June 1, 2026, citing unresolved issues including unpaid entitlements, promotion arrears and other welfare concerns.
Announcing the suspension on Wednesday, ASUU-MOAUM Chairman, Dr. Ako Sule, said the decision was taken after approval by the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) following successful negotiations that produced a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Sule explained that the agreement reflected the willingness of the union, the state government and the university administration to address the issues that triggered the strike through dialogue and cooperation.
He said the suspension took immediate effect, urging relevant parties to ensure the full implementation of the terms contained in the agreement.
According to him, the union expects the government and university authorities to honour their commitments under the MoU, noting that lasting industrial peace depends on respect for collective bargaining agreements.
Sule directed members of the academic staff to return to work immediately and continue their official duties.
He also thanked lecturers, students, parents and other stakeholders for their patience and support throughout the period of the strike, reaffirming ASUU’s commitment to safeguarding workers’ welfare while contributing to the growth of the institution.
