‎The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has announced August 17, 2026, as the date for local government council elections in the state, issuing a 60-day official notice to stakeholders.

‎This was disclosed in a statement released on Friday in Bauchi by the Commission’s Secretary, Nuru Abdulhamid.

‎He said the notice complies with the provisions of the state electoral law, which requires formal notification of political parties, stakeholders, and the public ahead of elections.

‎Abdulhamid recalled that the commission had earlier issued a 360-day notice in August 2025 to allow adequate preparation time for political parties and other participants.

‎He urged political parties intending to contest the elections to complete their internal arrangements and ensure strict compliance with electoral guidelines and laws.

‎According to him, full details of the election timetable, procedures, and related information will be released in due course.

‎He reaffirmed BASIEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible electoral process.
