Spanish giants Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan on a four-year contract, with reports estimating the transfer fee at €20 million ($23 million).

‎In a statement released on Sunday, the club announced that Dumfries has signed a deal that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2030.

‎The 30-year-old right-back arrives after an impressive spell with Inter Milan, where he joined from PSV Eindhoven in 2021. During his time in Italy, he helped the Nerazzurri secure two Serie A titles and reached the UEFA Champions League final on two occasions.

‎Dumfries also represented the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup, featuring until the Dutch side exited the tournament in the Round of 32 after a penalty shootout defeat to Morocco.

‎His arrival strengthens Madrid’s options at right-back, where he is expected to compete with England international Trent Alexander-Arnold for a starting place.

‎The Dutch international becomes Real Madrid’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konaté.

‎The Spanish club is undergoing a major squad rebuild after failing to win a major trophy in each of the last two seasons. Portuguese manager José Mourinho was appointed to lead the team following the departure of Álvaro Arbeloa.

‎Real Madrid have also extended the contract of German defender Antonio Rüdiger until 2027, while experienced defenders Dani Carvajal and David Alaba left the club at the end of last season.
