The Edo State Police Command has rescued four people abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Lagos-Benin Expressway.
The victims —Muritala Babatunde, Bello Aminat, Otor Prince and Yeiyah Gift — were reportedly kidnapped on July 30, 2026, at about 10:40 p.m.
According to the police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, the incident occurred around the Ugbokun axis, shortly before the military checkpoint. She said about three armed men dressed in vigilante uniforms blocked the road with logs of wood and leaves before attacking motorists and taking some passengers into a nearby forest.
Following the report, police operatives, working with other security agencies, launched an extensive search of the area. The operation was supported by drone technology to improve surveillance and locate the abducted victims.
Ikoedem said the sustained pressure mounted by the security team forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and escape into the forest.
The four victims were found unharmed and have since been reunited with their families, the police said.
