Ahead of the forthcoming Nasarawa North senatorial by-election scheduled for June 20, Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu (Davematics) has emerged as the unopposed candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, following the withdrawal of two opponents who cited his competence and legislative experience.
The opponents stated that their decision to withdraw from the senatorial race was in the best interest of the party, and they pledged their support to secure victory, ensuring quality representation for the district in the Nigerian Senate.
Ombugadu, who was recently affirmed as the party’s candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election in Nasarawa State, had represented Akwanga/Nassarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency between 2011 and 2019, where he was adjudged as one of the best lawmakers the constituency ever had.
Speaking on the development, Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu commended his opponents for stepping down and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him if elected to the National Assembly to complete the tenure of Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who died in office last year.
Ombugadu described his senatorial bid as a deliberate and strategic step toward the shared vision for a prosperous Nasarawa State, noting that to build a house, one must first secure the foundation.
He explained that by bringing his experience to the Senate, he is creating the necessary leverage to deliver the infrastructure, health, and economic policies that Nasarawa State deserves.
“This isn’t just about a senatorial seat; it’s about gathering the political and policy capital to effectively lead and transform Nasarawa State as Governor. The mission is clear, the logic is sound, and our resolve is stronger than ever,” he added.
Reacting, voters particularly in Akwanga and Wamba areas of the senatorial district, expressed boundless enthusiasm over the development and pledged their unshakeable commitment to triumph in the June 20th election.
