Katsina Police Arrest Woman Over Alleged Murder of 97-Year-Old Grandmother

The Katsina State Police Command has taken a 20-year-old woman into custody following the alleged killing of her 97-year-old grandmother in Daura Local Government Area.

‎According to police authorities, the incident occurred on June 12, 2026, after a disagreement reportedly erupted between the young woman and her paternal grandmother at their residence.

‎Preliminary investigations indicate that the altercation turned violent, with the suspect allegedly hitting the elderly woman on the head with a wooden chair, causing severe injuries.

‎The matter came to the attention of the police after the suspect’s father reported the incident at the Sabon Garin Daura Police Station. Officers who responded to the report found the victim unconscious and lying in a pool of blood.

‎The injured woman was immediately transported to a medical facility for emergency treatment. However, doctors later confirmed her death.

‎Spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said detectives launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect. He added that the woman reportedly admitted to committing the act during questioning.

‎Police said she remains in custody while investigations continue, noting that she will be arraigned before a court once the inquiry is concluded.
