Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has fulfilled a promise made earlier this year by donating a new house and a wheelchair to a physically challenged resident, Isiah Chesire.
The support comes about five months after Mr Chesire publicly appealed to the governor for assistance during activities marking Oyo State’s 50th anniversary in February.
Representatives of the Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities (OYPWD) officially handed over the house and wheelchair to the beneficiary on Monday on behalf of the governor.
Presenting the items, the agency’s Director-General, Ayodele Adekanmbi, said the intervention reflects the Makinde administration’s commitment to promoting inclusion and improving the welfare of persons living with disabilities.
According to him, the donation goes beyond providing shelter and mobility support, describing it as the fulfilment of a promise and a demonstration of compassionate leadership that restores dignity and hope.
He also urged Mr Chesire not to sell the property, assuring him that the state government would continue to introduce programmes aimed at enhancing the lives of persons with disabilities.
Responding, Mr Chesire expressed deep appreciation to Governor Makinde, saying the gesture had transformed his life.
He said he never imagined owning a house of such standard and described the gift as a dream come true, while praying for God’s continued protection and blessings upon the governor and his administration.
