The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans to stage a solidarity and advocacy rally in Oyo State following the kidnapping of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde, disclosed this on Friday in a nationwide invitation to various structures of the association and allied stakeholders, describing the continued captivity of the victims as disturbing and intolerable.
He said students across the country could no longer remain passive while fellow learners and educators remain in the hands of abductors, stressing the need for urgent intervention by security agencies and relevant authorities.
According to him, the planned mobilisation is aimed at mounting pressure on government and security institutions to ensure the immediate rescue of the abducted victims.
As part of the programme, Akinteye noted that participants will visit affected schools, including Community High School/Grammar School, Ahoro-Esiele; L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esiele; and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.
He added that the delegation would also pay visits to the Oyo State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS) office before embarking on a peaceful protest march in Ibadan.
The rally is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 1, 2026.
Akinteye called on student bodies, activists, and concerned Nigerians to join the movement, saying collective action was necessary to demand justice and secure the release of the victims.
He noted that the situation had lingered for about two weeks without the rescue of those abducted, describing it as unacceptable and urging immediate action.
Gunmen had earlier invaded Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Oriire LGA, abducting 39 students and seven teachers. During the attack, a teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was killed, while a two-year-old child, Christianah Akanbi, was also taken away.
