The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has inaugurated a new set of executives to oversee the affairs of the association for the next two years.
The officials emerged during the association’s 2026 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference held in Gusau, where members elected a new leadership team.
The election was supervised by the electoral committee led by Ibrahim Halilu, who conducted the voting process and announced the results.
Murtala Salahudden, Incident Manager of the Polio Emergency Operations Centre in Gusau, was elected chairman after securing 110 votes, defeating Bashir Isa of Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, who polled 55 votes.
Six other executive members were returned unopposed and were immediately inaugurated to work alongside the chairman during the two-year administration.
In his acceptance speech, Salahudden promised to run an open, transparent and inclusive administration focused on protecting the interests of medical practitioners and improving healthcare services across Zamfara State.
He also pledged to work closely with relevant stakeholders to strengthen the medical profession and support initiatives aimed at enhancing the state’s health sector.
The newly elected chairman appealed to members of the association and other stakeholders to cooperate with his administration to enable it to achieve its objectives.
Speaking earlier, the immediate past chairman, Ibrahim Hano, thanked members for their support throughout his tenure, noting that the association recorded notable progress in members’ welfare, unity and professional cooperation.
Hano added that the cordial relationship maintained with the Zamfara State Government and other stakeholders during his administration contributed to improvements in healthcare delivery across the state.
While administering the oath of office, former NMA chairman Abubakar Danladi urged the new executives to live up to the confidence reposed in them by members.
He further advised the leadership to embrace teamwork, unity, peace and inclusiveness while carrying every member along to ensure the association’s continued growth and development.
