Former Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Ichala Wada, has been inaugurated as Chairman of the 17-member Kogi State All Progressives Congress (APC) Peace and Reconciliation Committee. The inauguration was performed on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, by the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
The committee, formally designated as the APC Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee, has been entrusted with the responsibility of addressing and reconciling outstanding issues within the Kogi APC, with a view to strengthening unity and cohesion in the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Lugard House, the seat of the Kogi State Government, Governor Ododo described the assignment as historic, stressing that the strength of the APC in Kogi State would depend largely on its ability to remain united and accommodate members with diverse interests and perspectives.
“I am a man of peace. I am a man of consultation and engagement. I have never believed in violence as a means of resolving political differences. I believe that where there is disagreement, there must always be room for dialogue, understanding and reconciliation,” Governor Ododo said.
The governor recalled that after emerging as the APC candidate in the 2023 governorship election, he reached out to political leaders across the state irrespective of their political affiliations, ethnic or religious backgrounds. He noted that the same spirit of consultation and inclusiveness informed the establishment of the committee.
Governor Ododo charged the committee to identify the root causes of internal disagreements within the party, engage aggrieved leaders and members, and develop lasting solutions capable of restoring unity and cohesion. The committee has three weeks to complete its assignment and is expected to produce a Statewide Grievance and Stakeholder Mapping Report, an APC Continuous Reconciliation Action Plan, a register of unresolved internal disputes and proposed solutions, as well as a framework for reintegrating returning members and accommodating new entrants.
“We are members of the same family. Whatever differences we have had must give way to the greater interest of the party and the state. The timing of this assignment is also important. We are preparing for the 2027 elections,” Governor Ododo added.
In his response on behalf of the committee, Chairman Captain Idris Wada thanked Governor Ododo for the confidence reposed in the members. He confirmed that the committee would commence its meetings tomorrow morning and work diligently to fulfil the important assignment.
Wada assured that the committee would work immediately to reconcile aggrieved members and strengthen the party.
The committee comprises 17 members and is expected to submit a Final Reconciliation and Political Harmonisation Report containing recommendations for sustaining unity, expanding the party’s support base and strengthening its grassroots structure.
