The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has expressed sympathy to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over the death of High Chief Lekan Alabi, who passed away at the age of 76.
Alabi, the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, died in Lagos on Saturday and was laid to rest on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.
A respected journalist, public relations expert and historian, Alabi was widely recognised for his commitment to preserving Yoruba history, culture and traditions throughout his lifetime.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ooni described the late traditional chief as a man who devoted his life to promoting truth, cultural heritage and responsible public communication.
He said Alabi was an outstanding custodian of Yoruba history, an accomplished public relations practitioner and a distinguished ambassador of Yoruba civilisation whose impact reached beyond Ibadanland.
Oba Ogunwusi further described the late chief’s passing as a significant loss to the Yoruba people, noting that his dedication to preserving the dignity of traditional institutions through knowledge, diplomacy and selfless service would be greatly missed.
According to the monarch, Alabi’s death has left a void that will be difficult to fill, as he served the Yoruba nation with remarkable commitment and unwavering devotion.
