The police command in Ogun has arrested nine motorists at the Sango-Ota axis of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state over various traffic violations.
The command’s public relations officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
Mr Babaseyi said the Sango-Ota Divisional Police Station, in compliance with the directive of CP Bode Ojajuni, sustained the ongoing Operation “No Traffic Gridlock” in Sango-Ota.
He said the operation led to the arrest and arraignment of nine offenders for traffic violations and obstruction of public highways.
“The operatives were strategically deployed to identified flashpoints notorious for persistent traffic congestion and road indiscipline.
“During the coordinated enforcement exercise, several vehicles and tricycles were intercepted for violating extant traffic regulations.
“While those found obstructing the free flow of traffic were promptly impounded in line with the Command’s zero-tolerance policy,” he said.
Mr Babaseyi said the nine persons have since been formally charged to court, while monitoring and enforcement continue to apprehend other violators undermining public safety and order within the Sango-Ota corridor.
He said Mr Ojajuni commended the professionalism and commitment of the operatives in the division.
The CP reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for road obstruction and traffic indiscipline.
Mr Ojajuni warned that any individual, regardless of status, found deliberately causing traffic gridlock or disobeying lawful directives of traffic officers would face the law.
