Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered security agencies to track down and prosecute those responsible for the vandalisation of the Festac-Alakija Bridge.
The governor described the incident as a criminal and unacceptable attack on public infrastructure, warning that his administration would not allow acts capable of threatening critical facilities across the state.
Sanwo-Olu’s reaction was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
Following the vandalism, officials of the Office of Infrastructure inspected the bridge to determine the extent of the damage. According to the governor, the assessment showed that the bridge’s structural integrity remained intact despite the incident.
Sanwo-Olu, however, directed that urgent repairs be carried out to protect the affected bridge columns and prevent further deterioration.
He also warned that anyone found to have participated in the vandalisation would face the full weight of the law, describing the incident as shameful and condemnable.
The governor stressed that Lagos would not tolerate violence or deliberate attacks on public infrastructure and government facilities.
He appealed to residents to remain watchful and protect public assets within their communities. He further urged members of the public to report suspicious activities around critical infrastructure to security agencies.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Lagos residents.
