Senator Sani Musa has commended President Bola Tinubu for choosing to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, describing the move as a strategic political decision that would strengthen the All Progressives Congress (APC) in northern Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Kano, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance said the president’s choice had boosted confidence among northerners and positioned the ruling party favourably ahead of the next general election.
Musa maintained that keeping Shettima on the ticket had reinforced the APC’s influence across the region and would translate into strong electoral support for the Tinubu-Shettima team as they seek a second term.
“The President’s decision is the most delightful gesture to the people of Northern Nigeria.
“Every person in Northern Nigeria is ready to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027,” he said.
The lawmaker further argued that the decision had weakened opposition efforts to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid, noting that Shettima remained a key figure in consolidating the administration’s political base in the North.
He also praised the vice president for promoting unity within the region and helping to prevent political divisions despite what he described as attempts by some disgruntled individuals to create discord.
Musa added that Shettima had continued to make important contributions to governance and had consistently worked towards strengthening the administration.
