President Bola Tinubu has approved the conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, into the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna.

‎‎The development was announced by Daniel Amos, the member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on House Services.

‎‎Amos said the conversion would create opportunities for more degree programmes, strengthen research and improve technical and vocational education in the country.

‎‎The legislation, sponsored by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, repeals the existing law establishing the polytechnic and provides for its transformation into a specialised university.

‎‎According to Amos, the new institution is expected to equip students with practical and professional skills needed in the labour market while contributing to Nigeria’s technological and industrial development.

‎‎He commended Abbas for sponsoring the bill, describing the Speaker’s involvement as a demonstration of commitment to educational advancement and national development.

‎‎Amos also thanked Tinubu for assenting to the legislation, alongside another bill establishing the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies in Yaba, Lagos.

‎He said the approvals aligned with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its focus on educational reform and human capital development.

‎The lawmaker congratulated the people of Kaduna State, as well as the management, staff and students of the former polytechnic, on the institution’s elevation.

‎‎He expressed hope that the university would widen access to higher education and strengthen technical and vocational training in Kaduna and neighbouring communities.
