A Ukrainian drone strike has targeted a warehouse belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s biggest online retail company, in the Vladimir region, causing a major fire at the facility.
Wildberries, often described as the Russian equivalent of Amazon, confirmed on Monday that the attack damaged its warehouse located about 180 kilometres east of Moscow. The company said all workers at the site were safely evacuated following the incident.
Videos circulating online showed heavy smoke rising from the burning facility in the early hours of Monday. Vladimir region Governor Alexander Avdeyev also confirmed the attack, stating that more than 200 firefighters were mobilised to contain the blaze.
The incident marks the latest in a series of strikes involving the company’s facilities. Ukrainian forces had previously attacked another Wildberries warehouse last month, describing the action as retaliation for Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky had earlier said the attacks were carried out in response to Russian assaults on Ukrainian cities and communities. In a post on X, he stated that two major logistics centres in the Moscow and Tambov regions were targeted, located hundreds of kilometres away from the frontline.
The latest strike comes amid continued tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides carrying out attacks deep within each other’s territories as the conflict persists.
