A 50-year-old woman has lost her life, while a child suffered serious injuries following a head-on collision involving a car and a truck in the Republic of Ireland.
The crash happened around 5 p.m. on Friday along the R162 road at Corclare, Shercock, in County Cavan.
According to Gardaí, the Irish police, the woman, who was driving the car, died at the scene of the accident. The child, who was travelling as a passenger, was rushed to Temple Street Hospital for treatment.
Several other occupants of the vehicles were assessed and treated by medical personnel at the scene, but authorities confirmed that no further injuries were recorded.
Gardaí said the affected road has been closed to allow forensic investigators to carry out examinations, while traffic diversions have been put in place.
The police have also appealed to members of the public who witnessed the crash or may have relevant information to assist with the investigation.
